Sleepless in Valencia…

Last night was one of those nights where my mind kept racing with ideas and sleep never came. I don’t think this is unusual for serious writers. There are stories that you tell yourself, roads you invent and castles you build all in your mind, and the constant construction fills your brain to such a capacity that sleep never sucks you away. I don’t see that as a bad thing if it happens every now and again. I actually think it’s a good sign when your brain is always exercising. Of course deep sleep is essential to brain development and good writing, so today has been one for reading and napping. Tonight I plan to get back to my two features.

I also outlined a short yesterday. This would probably be a half hour film which is in the same realm as My Confession, the first film I produced for our company back when we were Rojan Productions. Pouring over old head shots from past auditions can inspire me, and that’s what happened with this particular story which is pretty dark. A lot of the shorts I’ve been writing lately are darker than what I usually write. I’ve written so many shorts over the past few months, and if you take into account the many I wrote last year, I have hundreds to choose from. For me, it’s all about being inspired by my actors and the roles that I see them taking on in my story. This one will be challenging for the actors to play as they are very emotional scenes.
