Several Projects…

I have a couple of projects I’m writing at the moment, a few I’m looking to cast and three in post. Playground is in the special effects stage so Brad has the reins. He works on Cosmos most of the day and fits Playground in when he can. Yesterday he worked for several hours. The weekends and late nights are when he has the time to spend on the effects.

I picked up Harley again today. I inserted extra b-roll, added music, did some sound work, tightening and tweaking.

I even made a second version of the film that would appeal to a wider audience.

It’s amazing what you can do in post. Editors are writers in their own way and since I wrote this script, it’s pretty easy for me to scramble the pieces any way I want.

Harley is an emotional story about a fighter who nearly loses his best friend in a hate crime. It’s the only one I’ve written so far with the actors in mind before it was cast. Being able to get the cast I imagined (Lars Slind, Caleb Hoffman & Hannah Elder) and see them bring the characters to life was amazing. Like Playground, we shot Harley in one day. 11 pages in 8 hours with 2 cameras. We worked like Clint Eastwood, 2 to 4 takes and moving on. It worked for this one because the actors were well prepared. I did end up shooting extra B-roll and voice-over for a montage section to make the film even more emotional. These are a few shots I took of Lars Slind who plays Harley.

As I’ve learned from doing several of my shorts, the more footage the better. I love having several choices as an editor, and I want my future projects to have multiple days in production to ensure I have a variety of choices.
