Sci-Fi Pilot…

Brad developed a Sci-Fi series and wrote the first pilot which I am currently reading now. As I am proofing it, I am adding my own story points. It’s going to be an awesome series, and we will be shooting a pitch reel for it. Brad also designed the most technically complicated composite shot for Playground last night. There are still several more shots to design, but it was great to get the most difficult one out of the way. He knows so much when it comes to special effects, and I find it fascinating!

Last year, we produced eight short films. All of them were a great stomping ground for producing a feature. I wrote several features last year (Sandy Beach, Greg, Rome 444, and Pieces in Bloom). Currently I am writing two features. One is a romantic comedy based on true events, and the other is my injustice one that is very emotional. The best way to get funding for these feature would be to cast and shoot a pitch reel, so I can take something to show investors other than the budget. Not only will I have all of our shorts to show, but I will also have a preview of what the film will look like. It’s the best way to grow our company because doing shorts, no matter how fun they are to produce, will only get you so far. It’s great practice and good content for reels, but my aim is to produce a feature film.

I would also love to have a television series, especially if it was in the vein of Star Trek or Battle Star Galactica. As I work on Brad’s pilot, I’ll need to shift my focus to television which has a different structure than feature films. I’ve already done that in some of the books I’m reading (mainly books by Jen Grisanti), but I also want to map out series which means studying and taking notes on structure, language and theme.

With all the work that I have to do, on top of being a mother of twins, my time is very limited. As my boys go back to school tomorrow after their long winter break, I will again have time to focus on our business and move forward with our many projects.
