Sci-Fi Feature in the Works…

I went through Brad’s rewrite on episode 1 of Cole Maddux today and made some major changes. I am doing another pass now to pick up the pace, add more dynamic action and get rid of unnecessary dialogue. I also want to move the scenes forward fast, so I am finding ways to get us in and out of places without losing too much content. I’m also keeping some characters around that were killed off early on, as well as changing some characters to make them more interesting and three-dimensional. The more time you spend with an episode, the better it starts to look. I flew through episode 1 and casting, so we would be ready to  take off in December. There are scenes we are nearly ready to shoot, and as I pin down the final draft this week, we can get started on scheduling shooting days. The good thing about this series is that quite a few members of the cast are also cast in Lone Viking which could help us obtain our $300,000 budget for that feature. It’s just one of many on our plate. I am also working on Hudley Square and Baywood Lane, both low-budget family dramas.

In addition, Brad and I will be writing a new feature together. This one is incredible!!! It’s a Sci-Fi Epic that, like The Sphere, will be created in post. This one will have battle scenes, space ships, and a group of interesting characters that come together to form a makeshift family and hide from an invasion. It’s going to have action, drama, a lot of heart and a ton of visual effects. I am very exciting about writing it with Brad. Breaking down the story and characters tonight, I realize just how much we can do on our own for virtually no money. Effects that would cost people hundreds of thousands of dollars just costs us time and effort. I am so thankful for our background in post and where it has led us. It’s a very exciting time!
