Priceless Information…
Today I had lunch with an Executive Producer who gave me some great tips on how to get my feature financed through product placement and integration. I believe priceless information always comes from those with experience. You can read book after book and do the research, which I have done, but still, there is nothing like sitting down and talking to someone who lives it and has years of experience. The funny thing is this individual worked on the same film I worked on with Lynda Obst. He was on set in NY, and I was at Paramount Pictures on Melrose at Lynda’s production office. We both have different stories from the film and know the same people. It was a nice surprise and a reminder of what a small world we live in.
The film I am focused on producing is the romantic comedy that has a direct link to my family and is based on a true story. That in itself lends to news stories that can be associated with the project based on the real people as well as the actors. In that way, it’s reminiscent of The Help and The Blind Side. There’s a long road ahead, but I’m determined to drive it. The best lesson he stressed was showing up. So many times people are afraid to fail, and they don’t even attempt it. Everyone makes mistakes, but you need to make them to learn from them and progress. I plan to be as prepared as possible, so I make fewer mistakes. I’d rather show up and fall flat on my face than miss an opportunity to grow.
