One Scene Left…
The first cut of Harley is almost done. I just have the last scene to cut. Then I can go back and tighten and massage the sound. I’m going to need to film some city shots for transitions. I’ve been moving fast because we have a lot of projects in the pipe line. It’s amazing looking at Justine & Barry compared to Harley. J&B took a lot longer to cut, but it also had 60 different scenes and took 4 days to shoot, whereas Harley took a day and was shot in two locations with 5 set-ups. They’re both around the same length but are completely different stylistically.
J&B had a lot of effects work, and the sound work was very intensive since it moves so quickly being comedy driven. We shortened some scenes during post to make the pace that much faster. It’s a fun ride! Harley is a drama and the pacing is slower and more fluid. I enjoy this style more because it feels good to cut. In 8 hours Harley was completely shot (11 pages), and it makes me realize that in eight days I can have an entire feature shot (88 pages). It’s pretty amazing how good the footage looks too. I attribute that to the experience we gained on J&B which was considerable. I can’t wait to get back into production. I love directing my own stories.
