Juggling Act…

Playground is still in the process of being synced. Everything looks and sounds great, and I couldn’t be happier with the Epic. I’m glad we tested it out on this short before we jump to our feature, whichever one we choose to do.

I took a break from writing my trilogy to map out one of my other feature ideas. It’s a story of injustice done to a boy who is gay living in this small town of bigots. It’s a hard one to write for me because I’m an extremely open minded and fair person, so to see or even know of someone who has been treated poorly because of their sexual orientation is hideous to me on a level that is unimaginable. It’s reminiscent of the true story that happened here in California of the boy at school who was shot and killed because he liked to dress up like a girl. I’ll never forget how mad I was when I first heard that story on the news. It was just unbelievable that something like this could happen in a state that was supposed to be liberal, which was one of the reasons my husband and I moved out here over a decade ago, other than the fact that we both have film degrees.

As someone who used to work in news for years, I became desensitized to sad stories. After hearing tragedy after tragedy, it takes a toll, but then there are the few that singe you, like a child with cancer, a family who loses all three of their kids, or a boy who is killed because he is gay. This feature I’m writing is definitely sad in parts and very violent in some parts too. It’s also about a town that grows beyond their preconceived prejudices. My film may not make much of a difference in a world that profits off the misery of others, but I hope with all the progress that has been made these past few years in the LGBT community that it will help someone who needs it.

I also wrote a few comedy skits today, and I want to write some that are love stories too. This is stuff I could shoot every week just for fun.
