Writing the Funny…
I got a ton of writing done today on my feature. I’m on page 76 and these characters are cracking me up. There is some seriously funny material in this particular story which will offset and balance some of the other stories. I’m having a good time creating my character’s quirks. I would love to divulge all the details cause I like to share, but it’s way too soon for that. Suffice it to say, Max provokes Phoebe to be her klutzy self and inspires her wild side. There are some off the wall moments that make me laugh out loud.
Pieces in Bloom has five stories that can stand alone. Once the stories are complete I will begin to interweave the stories together. I have kept this in mind as I write them, so they all follow a certain pattern. This is my editor brain at work and what makes my feature feasible and affordable. If for any reason we can’t get the full budget to shoot all five stories (one story a week), we will still have some incredible shorts. The cast is ensemble, and Opal is the only person who interacts with everyone so she could be considered the true lead. As I mesh the stories together, things could change a bit to make it all work. If I think they’re better as stand alone pieces, then I will leave them as five complete stories back to back. Then it will play out like glimpses into love stories around the city, all taking place around the same time frame with Opal being the one character who is in every story.
The script will be around 100 pages. Opal’s story is last, and I’m really looking forward to writing it next!
