Storytellers…

Hollywood is full of magicians who weave their way through the industry telling stories with all the tools in their toolbox. In our house, we can do it all. From writing the story, hiring the cast and crew, tackling production and handling all the post work which includes editing, graphics, coloring picture and sound design. It’s a great skill set to have, and over the last several years, my husband has picked up visual effects. He knows everything there is to know about AVID workflow too, which makes him a technical wizard! We have everything needed to produce a ton of content except for the time, since he works long days, and the money, because even going bare bones, production is expensive. It all starts with a good story. When writing my own scripts or reading someone else’s, a rule I like to follow is, if it made me laugh or cry, it’s a keeper.  Whatever life experiences you have add authenticity and realism to the page. Many great artists have troubled pasts and find a great way to express their emotions through art. I’ve found this to be true in my life.  As I look back at writings and films, my fears, hopes, dreams, wishes, and troubles are often times reflected on the page and screen.  My ideas and scripts continue to unfold. The nuggets of gold are found in the ones that cause me to feel an emotional response. It’s probably one of the most difficult things to do as a writer, but also the most rewarding.
