At the Movies…

I have about a dozen ideas a day. It’s like popcorn firing off in my head. I keep writing them down, and the list of stories just keeps growing  longer. A great majority of the stories I write are crime dramas. I really enjoy a good mystery. It’s no surprise as Hitchcock is one of my favorite directors. I also love Orson Welles.  Citizen Kane is an incredible film.

From  the mystery of Rosebud to the beautiful cinematography by Gregg Toland with his long takes and crisp depth of field. It’s the very conversation I had with Brad when we first met that made me think, I could date this guy.  The film especially registered for Brad because it is about a boy who is given up for adoption, and my husband was adopted.  When you’re emotionally tied to a film it makes a bigger impact.

At the time I was triple majoring in Film, Theatre/Dance and Sociology. I decided to add criminology to my work load, eager to learn about what made people turn to a life a crime. As a storyteller, I found  psychopathic serial killers fascinating. I couldn’t connect with the psychology of a person who could hurt others and feel nothing. It didn’t make sense to me. How could someone harm somebody for any reason other than self defense? I’ve always been a very curious person which has helped my creativity. All artists have a sense of wonder which is why I find them so appealing. The community of artists in L.A. is one of the many reasons I love this city. So many creatives flock here for a chance to live their dreams which is why I feel at home. The city of dreamers, artists, and filmmakers developing their next big idea…
